Richard M. Pinnola, President & CEO
Mr. Pinnola joined NeoDiagnostix in March 2009 as president & CEO. He brings to NeoDiagnostix over 20 years experience
in the clinical diagnostics industry where he has developed a track record for successfully commercializing
novel diagnostic technologies. Prior to joining NeoDiagnostix, Rich served as COO at LipoScience, Inc.,
a medical diagnostics company offering proprietary applications of NMR technology for cardio-metabolic disorders.
While at LipoScience, Rich drove the transition of the company's business model by establishing partnerships with
key clinical laboratories enabling nationwide access to the test, leading to a tripling of unit volume and managing
the commercial services business to operating profitability. Rich also served as Vice President of Marketing and
Commercial Development with Becton Dickinson/TriPath Imaging where he successfully re-launched BD/TriPath's
cervical cytology program, their first molecular oncology assays and BD's first molecular diagnostics system platform.
Rich began his career at Hoffmann-La Roche holding various positions in strategic planning, marketing,
business development, finance, and economics and reimbursement. While at Roche Molecular Systems, he spearheaded
the launch and global market development of a number of Roche's first PCR-based diagnostic assays and systems.
Rich holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the Stern School of Business at New York University.
Gregory Endress, EVP & COO
Mr. Endress is the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of NeoDiagnostix, his third start-up company.
Previously, Mr. Endress was the Chief Scientific Officer at Protedyne Corporation from its founding in 2000 until
November of 2004. During his four years there, Mr. Endress led the development of scientific applications for the
Company's automated platforms for drug discovery research and diagnostic testing. Protedyne expanded from its founding
employees to a 45-person global automation supplier to such customers as GSK, Schering-Plough, Quest Diagnostics,
Eisai Pharmaceuticals, and Eli Lilly. Prior to that, Mr. Endress was one of the original employees of Avalon
Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of small molecule therapeutics
for the treatment of cancer. Mr. Endress has also worked at Life Technologies, (now Invitrogen), and Human Genome
Sciences (HGSI). Mr. Endress has a B.A. in Molecular & Cell Biology from Kenyon College and M.S. of Horticulture
from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Madhvi Upender, Ph.D., Scientific Director
Dr. Upender is a co-founder and the Scientific Director of NeoDiagnostix.
She has been instrumental in setting up the CLIA certified laboratory and directs clinical and R&D activities.
She is a leading research scientist with expertise in cancer
and molecular cytogenetics. She completed her postdoctoral work in cancer genetics at the National Cancer Institute
with Dr. Thomas Ried, utilizing genetic tools to understand cancer progression. Dr. Ried's laboratory has contributed pioneering work to the identification of genetic alterations in cervical cancer, and to the development and application of methods for the detection of such cancer specific abnormalities directly in routinely collected samples. Dr. Upender received her Ph.D. from Wesleyan University with emphasis on mechanisms of cell death during development and disease. She received B.S. Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences with specialty in Cytogenetics from the University of Connecticut. Prior to her doctoral program, she was a Certified Cytogenetic Technologist and worked at Yale University Dept. of Genetics in the lab of Dr. David Ward, another laboratory that contributed milestone achievements to the development of FISH technologies. She has authored numerous articles and publications in the field of cancer genetics.
